When night falls in Ashborne, the Dephx-faced killer roams the streets. His approach always coincides with the darkness, lights and electrical devices seem to refuse to function within this killer's vicinity. The patterns of his prey are often debated, but always share the following traits: they are always an Aphex, and never possess unusual mutations like mouths or extra limbs. Victims usually hold the standard Aphex appearance and follow a modest life. While it has been theorized on why the Butcher focuses on Aphex of this category no clear motives can be affirmed. The method of killing their victims always remains the same. The main cause of death is a slit throat, but the details of what happens to the corpse afterward are what gives the killer his signature name. The skin on the snout is sliced from cheek to cheek and pulled back to reveal the bone underneath. Eyes are removed and are replaced with black marbles. In most cases, the body is completely cleaned of any blood. There has rare cases of Aphex surviving the Butcher's attack and are permanently scarred with its skin refusing to heal over the skull and black marbles forever embedded in their skulls.

Those who have encountered the Butcher and lived to tell the tale depict an Aphex of modest height and a lean build, always wearing a sleek black Dephx mask and a black and white undershirt. Some have also noted of glowing green eyes under the material of the mask. No one has yet to discover the Butcher real identity, but it is theorized he is in a position of high nobility in Ashborne.
